The African Assistancy is now made up of Seven Provinces and three Regions. There are other Jesuits working in Algeria and Morocco as part of the Province of France; in Egypt as part of the Near East Province, in Angola as part of the Province of Portugal, and in the Islands of Reunion and Mauritius which belong to the West European Assistancy. The main apostolates in Africa include primary, secondary and tertiary education, formation of the diocesan seminarians, on-going formation of the clergy, social apostolates, retreat ministry, spiritual and cultural centres, parishes and chaplaincies. There are currently over 1400 Jesuits working in the African Assistancy.
